Police Investigate Fatal Shooting Of 31-Year-Old St. Thomas Man At Oswald Harris Court Sunday: VIPD

CHARLOTTE AMALIE — Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a 31-year-old St. Thomas man near a housing project in downtown east Sunday afternoon, authorities said.

Secori Akeel Elmes of St. Thomas was shot multiple times shortly before 2:10 p.m. Sunday and died near Oswald Harris Court, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

The 911 Emergency Call Center said the initial report of multiple shots fired was near the basketball court at Oswald Harris Court, according to the VIPD.

“Officers found an unresponsive Black male who sustained multiple gunshot wounds about his body,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said.

Emergency Medical Technicians on the scene concluded that Elmes had no visible signs of life, Derima said.

Detectives of the Major Crimes Unit are asking anyone with information about this shooting to contact police by calling 911, the Criminal Investigation Bureau at (340) 774-2211 extension 5606, or the paying anonymous tip line Crime Stoppers USVI at 1 (800) 222-8477.

“Your tips can be the information the VIPD needs to solve this crime,” the VIPD spokesman said “Remember, if you see something, say something.”
