CHARLOTTE AMALIE — A St. Thomas man who was arrested for firing a gun at a gas station in 2017 was arrested on Monday for allegedly firing a gun at a housing project, authorities said.
Dekumar Rogers, 46, of Oswald Harris Court, was arrested at 5:15 a.m. Monday and charged him with possession of an unlicensed firearm, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.
“Rogers was arrested in connection to a shooting incident in the Oswald Harris Court housing community on August 27 that left a man injured.” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said.
Bail for Rogers was set at $25,000. Unable to post bail, he was remanded to the custody of the Virgin Islands Bureau of Corrections (BOC) pending an advice-of-rights hearing.
According to police records, Rogers was also arrested on December 28, 2017 for firing a gun at the 1st Stop Gas Station in Estate Thomas.
Meanwhile, people on social media said that Superior Court judges should be held responsible for the amount of repeat offenders on our streets.
“I think judges should be held liable in some cases,” Hortensia Encarnacion said on Facebook. “This constant revolving door.”
