CHRISTIANSTED — A refinery worker whose body was found in a gut on the Hess Road near Limetree Bay’s man camp on Wednesday has been identified.

The Virgin Islands Police Department said the victim was 52-year-old David Bedynek of Houston, Texas.

Bedynek was an employee of the nearby Limetree Bay Refinery, VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said.

“The body showed no outward signs of injury,” Derima said. “The cause of death is unknown pending an autopsy and toxicology.”

Bedynek was found “unresponsive” by police east of the Hess Road in front of Armapavi Ballpark on Wednesday morning.

His body was positively identified by a family member, police said.

The VIPD has not ruled out foul play in the matter, according to detectives on the scene.
