FREDERIKSTED — A “reckless endangerment” incident led to one man being shot dead, another wounded on the Queen Mary Highway near Estate Whim early this morning, authorities said.

The 911 Emergency Call Center received a call of shots fired and someone calling for help on Queen Mary Highway, near Estate Whim about 1:19 a.m. today, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

Officers traveled to the area and discovered an unresponsive Black male and a wounded Caucasian male, each suffering from gunshot wounds, according to the VIPD.

“The Caucasian male was transported to the Juan Francisco Luis Hospital & Medical Center for treatment, where he was listed in stable condition,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said. “Emergency Medical Technicians on the scene concluded that the Black male, subsequently identified as Jakarai Charles, did not have any vital signs.”
