FREDERIKSTED — A newly re-elected St. Croix sophomore Senator sat down with the Virgin Islands Police Department to talk about ways to prevent crime and fundraising efforts for a police auxiliary group’s office.
St. Croix Senator Javan E. James met Monday with Sergeant Samuel Gittens and Officer Roland Richardson “to discuss several crime prevention initiatives and funding for the renovation of the Police Athletic League headquarters located at #59 Estate Whim,” the Virgin Islands Police Department said.
The Police Athletic League is an organization in many American police departments in which members of the police force coach young people, both boys and girls, in sports, and help with homework and other school-related activities.
The Frederiksted branch of PAL has served as a Safe Haven for children, who have needed a place to be during the hot days of June through early August.
The grounds of the PAL Headquarters in Estate Whim in Frederiksted are where children are able to run free, unencumbered and build character under the guidance of Renholdt “Rookie” Jackson, Director and retired V.I. Police Officer.
