Burglar Strikes St. John Again, But Police Can’t Figure Out Who He Is Despite Being Captured On Video

CRUZ BAY — A cat burglar who strikes during the sleepy hours of the night has been captured on surveillance video, but covers his face with a hoodie so authorities can’t recognize him.

The 911 Emergency Call Center dispatched officers to a residence in Estate Glucksberg in reference to a reported burglary at 11:44 a.m. Wednesday, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

“The victims stated that they awoke that morning to find that their valuables, worth over $1,000, were missing,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said. “A subsequent review of surveillance footage revealed that at approximately 4:28 a.m., a male, armed with a gun, wearing a hoodie and sweatpants, entered into the residence and stole the items. “

The suspect then fled the area on foot, Derima said. None of the occupants were injured.

This burglary is the latest in a string of incidents in the Glucksberg area that detectives are investigating, according to the VIPD.

Detectives ask area residents to be vigilant in securing their homes, and to be on the lookout for the suspect, who usually burglarizes homes between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact police by calling 911, the Criminal Investigation Bureau at (340) 774-2211 extension 5610, or anonymously to Crime Stoppers USVI at (800) 222-8477.
