Department of Agriculture Begins Accepting Beekeeping Training Applications

FREDERIKSTED — The Virgin Islands Department of Agriculture (VIDA) began accepting applications for its new Beekeeping Training Program on Friday.

Intentionally designed to help bolster the bee population in the Virgin Islands, this program will train interested individuals on the basics of establishing a beekeeping colony and the benefits of beekeeping alongside crop production.

Bees are essential to the production of food, and an increase in the number of individuals engaged in beekeeping will enhance crop pollination and may help improve production yields and the market competitiveness of specialty crops and other flowering plants in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Individuals interested in this program will need to submit a “Beekeeping Training Application” via hand delivery to the Marketing Division in our VIDA Offices or via email at: grants@doa.vi.gov by December 28, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. AST.
