Grateful St. Croix Residents Receive Boxes Of Free Fresh Produce From The USDA

FREDERIKSTED — The Virgin Islands Police Department participated in a surplus food distribution event that was held on Saturday in Estate Grove Place.

“Food was donated by USDA through the Surplus Food Program,” the VIPD said. “This was possible because of COVID-19, since farmers can’t distribute crops to stores and restaurants.”

Teams were spread out throughout the island of St. Croix to serve at least 2,200 homes.

The team members were: Caribbean Climate Change Foundation, Territorial Rescue Organization, VIPD Crime Prevention Bureau, the Office of Senator Allison DeGazon, the Office of Senator Steven Payne, St. Croix Administrator Sammuel Sanes, Virgin Islands Fire Service, and many other volunteers.

Scores of grateful St. Croix residents showed up to avail themselves of a box of free fresh fruits, vegetables and dairy products.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture is committed to bringing healthy food to American citizens no matter where they live in the United States.
