Health Department Won't Answer Important Questions From Public On COVID-19

CRUZ BAY — The Virgin Islands Department of Health has had the number of COVID-19 cases on St. John pending for six days now.

People on social media were publicly asking the VIDOH how does coronavirus testing “work” on St. John.

“Wondering how testing works on St. John?” Jane Porter Roskin asked. “We have had 33 tests pending since December 15.”

Others wanted to know when the COVID-19 vaccine will be made available for the elderly, especially relatives in nursing homes.

“Can you please tell me if there is an update on when the vaccines will be available for people over 70 years old and how we will be notified?” Susan Silverman asked the VIDOH.

Apparently, no one at the Department of Health monitors its Facebook page, because all of the questions asked by the public went unanswered.

And the last time VIDOH updated the public on the latest COVID-19 numbers was Saturday.

Health Commissioner Justa Encarnacion did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
