KINGSHILL — A St. Croix man who allegedly broke into a family’s Smithfield home early in the morning — and then refused to leave after he was confronted by the family — was arrested by police, authorities said.
Angel Escobar, 40, of Estate Morningstar, was arrested at 7:55 a.m. Tuesday and charged with second-degree burglary, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.
“Earlier that morning, a family reported to the 911 Emergency Call Center that Escobar entered into their residence in the Walter I.M. Hodge Pavilion housing community without permission,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said. “The family demanded that Escobar leave the residence, however he disregarded their demands.”
While investigating this matter, officers made contact with Escobar, and he was placed under arrest, Derima said.
Unable to post $50,000 bail, Escobar was remanded to the custody of the Virgin Islands Bureau of Corrections pending an advice-of-rights hearing.
