CHRISTIANSTED — A St. Croix man who violated the terms of a protective order 10 months ago was arrested by police on Saturday evening, authorities said.
Elias Velasquez, Jr., 53, of Hill Street, Christiansted, was arrested at 6:07 p.m. Saturday and charged with contempt of court, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.
“On March 11, 2020, Velasquez violated a restraining order not to have direct or indirect contact with an adult female,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said.
Bail for Velasquez was set at $1,000, which he was not able to post. He was remanded to the custody of the Virgin Islands Bureau of Corrections pending an advice-of-rights hearing.
Detectives from the VIPD’s Criminal Investigation Bureau made the arrest of Velasquez, Derima said.
The suspect was arrested based on a bench warrant issued by the Superior Court of the Virgin Islands.
