Magnitude 3.9 Earthquake Strikes Near Tortola In British Virgin Islands: USGS

ROAD TOWN, Tortola — A magnitude 3.9 earthquake was reported at 2:50 p.m. Tuesday, 31 miles north-northeast of the British Virgin Islands, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The BVI earthquake occurred 42 miles north-northeast of Cruz Bay, 47 miles northeast of Charlotte Amalie, 79 miles north-northeast of St. Croix and 81 miles northeast of Isabel Segunda, Vieques.

In the last 30 days, there have been 12 earthquakes recorded near Tortola in the British Virgin Islands, according to USGS.

The minor quake was centered at 18.8 degrees North latitude and 64.4 degrees West longitude, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
