CHRISTIANSTED — Police announced that a suspect was arrested today in the brutal slaying of a Sion Farm man in a bank parking lot on Tuesday morning.
Rajah Caul, 23, of Company Street, Christiansted was arrested at 7:05 a.m. today on a warrant issued by the Superior Court of the Virgin Islands, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.
Caul was charged with first-degree murder for the shooting death of 23-year-old Michael Anthony Cruz, who was killed in the parking lot of the Bank of St. Croix in Gallows Bay early Tuesday morning.
Bail for Caul was set at $1,000,000. Unable to post bail, he was remanded to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections pending an advice-of-rights hearing.
St. Croix District Chief of Police Sidney Elskoe commended the officers of the Special Operations Bureau and the detectives of the Criminal Investigation Bureau who, through their diligent efforts, were able to make an arrest within 72 hours of the crime.
“Gun violence is unacceptable in our small community. We thank the members of the community who came forward with information to make this possible,” Chief Elskoe said.
The investigation into this homicide is ongoing.
