FREDERIKSTED — A St. Croix senator made a site visit to the Police Athletic League’s headquarters in Estate Whim to do an assessment of the condition of the property on Friday.

Senator Javan James met with VIPD officer Roland Richardson and Renholdt “Rookie” Jackson at PAL’s headquarters to discuss pending legislation which would fund the refurbishment of the police auxiliary group’s main office.

James said his bill BR #20-1396 would appropriate funds to renovate the Police Athletic League headquarters in Estate Whim.

The Police Athletic League Program (PAL) serves youth within the territory with career exploration, recreational, educational, cultural, and social programs. Boys and girls ages three to 21 build for the future with a place to learn, grow, and dream.

The PAL Program has played an integral part in shaping the lives of many of our community’s youth who are now adults that are now serving in roles such as: Commissioners, Directors, Police, Teachers, Fireman, Business Owner, Military Personnel, Politicians and many more.

The PAL program which has served so many, is now in need of the community’s help. Several of the buildings being used are in dire need of repair and or demolition. Overgrown bushes have taken over the entrance to the facility and some areas requires painting.

In November, James met with police officials at VIPD Headquarters in Mars Hill to discuss ways to prevent crime and fundraising efforts for a police auxiliary group’s office.

James chaired the committee on Youth, Sports, Parks and Recreation in the previous Legislature.
