CHARLOTTE AMALIE — A St. Thomas man admitted in federal court to smuggling 11 pounds of marijuana into the territory last year, authorities said.
Trevon Richards, 31, of Charlotte Amalie, appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Ruth Miller and pleaded guilty to one count of possession with intent to distribute less than 50 kilograms of marijuana, U.S. Attorney Gretchen C.F. Shappert said.
Pursuant to the plea bargain agreement, Richards arrived at the Cyril E. King Airport in St. Thomas on November 4, 2020. After disembarking, Richards was stopped on the tarmac when a K-9 alerted to his backpack.
U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) officers searched Robinson’s bag finding six vacuum sealed plastic bags containing approximately 2.9 kilograms of marijuana.
A sentencing hearing will be scheduled at a later date, Shappert said.
On social media, Richards said he works in “construction.” He said his name is Trevon Richards, Sr.
This case was investigated by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
