CHRISTIANSTED — The Virgin Islands Health Department confirmed Wednesday that a 76-year-old St. Croix resident’s death is related to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
“After further investigating cause of death and ensuring notification of next of kin, the Virgin Islands Department of Health is saddened to confirm the territory’s twenty-fifth death related to COVID-19,” the VIDOH said in a prepared statement.
The Health Department confirmed that the deceased to be a 76-year old male.
So far, there have been 15 deaths on St. Thomas, nine deaths on St. Croix and one death on St. John attributed to COVID-19, according to the VIDOH.
And, before Wednesday, the most recent COVID-related death in the territory was of a 78-year-old St. Croix woman who died on January 3.
“The department continues to work to slow the spread of COVID-19. Please continue to follow these precautionary measures: stay at home, practice social distancing, wear a mask when in company of others outside of those in your household, clean frequently used areas thoroughly, and wash your hands often with soap and warm water,” the VIDOH said.
