Sion Farm-Area Man Brought Back From South Carolina To Face Illegal Ammunition Charge: VIPD

CHARGED: Jared Dover, 19, of Tan Tan Terrace on St. Croix.

CHRISTIANSTED — A Sion Farm-area man who police had to locate in South Carolina has been brought back to St. Croix to face illegal possession gun ammunition charges, authorities said.

Jared Dover, 19, of Tan Tan Terrace, was arrested at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday and charged with possession of ammunition, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

On May 1, 2020, police investigated a shooting incident on Benny Benjamin Drive (Route 79) where the gunshot victim was dropped off at the Juan F. Luis Hospital via private vehicle for treatment, the VIPD said.

“Dover, the victim of the incident, was found in possession of a fully loaded firearm magazine,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said. “On August 24, 2020, officers obtained an arrest warrant from the Superior Court of the Virgin Islands. Detectives subsequently located Dover in South Carolina and brought him back to the territory to face his charge.”

Bail for Dover was set at $50,000. Unable to post bail, he was remanded to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections pending an advice-of-rights hearing.

Dover was arrested based on a bench warrant issued by the Superior Court of the Virgin Islands, Derima said.

All individuals listed as arrested or charged with a crime in this report are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
