CHARLOTTE AMALIE — A St. Thomas man who was caught at the St. Thomas airport with 40 pounds of marijuana in his luggage has been sentenced Thursday to no time in prison, authorities said.
Sheldon Isles, 38, was sentenced to five years’ probation for possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, U.S. Attorney Gretchen C.F. Shappert said.
According to court documents, Isles was stopped at the Cyril E. King airport after arriving on St. Thomas from Miami, Florida.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers searched his luggage and located 32 vacuum sealed bags containing 14 kilograms of marijuana.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) investigated the case.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Kyle R. Payne prosecuted the case.
