Traffic Stop In St. Thomas Leads To Gun, Ammunition and Marijuana Arrest: VIPD

CHARLOTTE AMALIE — A traffic enforcement stop ended in St. Thomas Friday afternoon with an arrest of man for possession of an unregistered gun, ammunition and an undisclosed amount of .marijuana.

The traffic stop was made by police Friday at 4:35 p.m. on Julian Jackson Drive in St. Thomas, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

Carlos Colon, Jr., 26, of Estate Thomas, was arrested and charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm, possession of ammunition, and simple possession of a controlled substance, according to the VIPD.

“Officers on patrol conducted a traffic stop on a white Acura TSX, operated by Colon,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said. “During the course of the traffic stop, Colon was found with a loaded firearm on his person, and marijuana was found in the vehicle. “

A firearms license check was conducted, and it was revealed that Colon did not have a license to possess a firearm in the Virgin Islands,” Derima said. He was arrested as a result of possessing the firearm and the marijuana.

Bail for Colon was set at $50,000. Unable to make bail, he was turned over to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections, pending his Advice of Rights hearing.

All individuals listed as arrested or charged with a crime in this report are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
