VIPD Warns Public To Beware Of Robo Calls Claiming To Be WAPA Bill Collectors

CHARLOTTE AMALIE — The Virgin Islands Police Department is advising the community to guard against telephone calls from scam artists posing as employees of the Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority (WAPA).

WAPA management has indicated that scammers are using a computerized system, using the Authority’s main telephone numbers, to call residents to demand payment or face disconnection of services.

WAPA management has confirmed that the Authority does not use an automated telephone system to contact customers regarding account delinquency and/or service disconnection, VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said.

“If you receive any such telephone call, you should immediately hang up,” Derima said.

For more information about this scam, please contact the Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority or the VIPD.
