CHRISTIANSTED — A fourth person in the USVI has been charged with uploading a fake COVID-19 test to the territory’s online portal, authorities said.
Shania Shervington,, 35, of Estate Whim was arrested at 8:15 p.m. and charged with fraudulent claims upon the government, access to a computer for fraudulent purposes, use of false information, and filing or recording forged instruments, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.
“Shervington was arrested for submitting an altered negative COVID-19 test result to the USVI Travel Portal,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said, adding that officers of the COVID-19 Enforcement Task Force arrested her.
Bail for Shervington was set at $5,500. She was released on her own recognizance pending an advice-of-rights hearing.
All individuals listed as arrested or charged with a crime in this report are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
