CHRISTIANSTED — The Virgin Islands Police Department is warning the St. Croix motoring public that if you ignore posted no parking signs in town — there will be consequences.
At least one driver of a red subcompact sedan who parked on King Street in front of Government House in Christiansted found that out the hard way this morning, according to the VIPD.
“Parking in the Christiansted Taxi stand without a permit will get you towed,” the VIPD said in a terse message on Twitter. “Read the signs.”
Police Lt. Herminia Rivera, commander of the VIPD’s Christiansted district, met with taxi drivers late last year “to address their ongoing parking issues at the taxi stand.”
Lt. Rivera promised Ferdinand “The Mighty Pat” Samuel and other taxi drivers in November that police would closely monitor residents who were taking up spots meant for taxi drivers only.
Taxi drivers have long complained that motorists regularly park illegally in spaces allotted to the taxi association on King Street near the waterfront area without being cited for the offense.
