VIPA Celebrates CEK Expansion Project With Groundbreaking At Airport

Officials break ground on the VI Port Authority's $26.8 million Parking Garage and Transportation Center.

CHARLOTTE AMALIE — Governor Albert Bryan, Virgin Islands Port Authority Director Carlton Dowe, USVI Tourism Commissioner Joseph Boschulte and other officials broke ground to commemorate the start of Phase One of the Cyril E. King Airport Terminal Expansion and Modernization Project.

Phase One includes the Parking and Transportation Center that will hold 600 parking spaces and a dedicated location for ground transportation and car rental operations.

The $26.8 million project is funded via a $20 million grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce-Economic Development Administration in 2019.

VIPA will provide a $6.8 million local match. AT Construction was awarded the construction contract via a competitive bidding process.

The Virgin Islands Port Authority said that parking spaces are limited during the construction phase of the project and it encourages travelers to arrange to be dropped off and picked up when traveling via the Cyril E. King Airport.
