Truck Flips And Hits Utility Pole Near Gas Station In Glynn, Knocking Out Power To 2,000 Residents

KINGSHILL — A truck flipped and hit a utility pole near mid-island knocking out electricity to nearly 2,000 people on St. Croix last night.

The crash occurred near Sam’s Gas Station in Estate Glynn about 10:40 p.m. Saturday, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

“A vehicular accident in the area of Sam’s Gas Station which damaged a pole and primary service lines is the source of an electrical service interruption impacting 1,978 customers on feeders 10A,” the Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority said. “Line department crews are currently working to safely replace the pole and complete repairs. This is a process that takes a minimum of 2 hours. All efforts are being made to restore service as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience.”

Pictures from the accident scene show a white truck toppled over on its roof and a utility pole askew across the Sam’s Gas Station.

Emergency Medical Technicians responded to the accident and law enforcement officers were dispatched to the area to assist, according to the VIPD.

The driver, an unidentified man, was transported to the Juan F. Luis Hospital and Medical Center for treatment and was listed as stable, police said.
