Emergency Road Work Continues At Altona Lagoon, DPW Says

CHRISTIANSTED — The Department of Public Works (DPW) said that emergency relief road work is taking place in the Altona Lagoon area of St. Croix, on Route 753 East.

The box culvert at this site sustained substantial damage during the 2017 storms and is also scheduled for repairs, according to DPW.

The project contractor — Virgin Islands Paving Inc. — has completed stabilizing the subgrade and placed an asphalt base course at a section of the failed roadway.

The contractor is currently installing concrete swales and gutters. Construction of a new bridge structure at Lagoon should commence within the next few months.

The roadway near the Caribbean Kidney Center will be addressed once an assessment has been made regarding groundwater issues in the area.

The Department of Public Works appreciates the community’s patience as they work to improve road conditions throughout the territory. Follow DPW for more updates on the status of Emergency Relief Projects.
