Over-Filled Dump Truck Tips Over Onto SUV Injuring 2 People On St. Thomas

CHARLOTTE AMALIE — Police are investigating after a roll-off truck carrying a bin filled with dirt tipped over onto an SUV.

It is the second accident involving a service truck and civilians on St. Thomas in less than two months. On July 9, a lift truck overturned on two people, injuring one and killing another.

The 911 emergency operator received a call at 6:17 p.m. Monday, about an auto collision involving a truck that fell onto a vehicle, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

Officers arrived and conducted a preliminary investigation; which revealed that a truck that was transporting a roll on/off garbage bin filled with dirt fell over on its right side onto an SUV, according to the VIPD.

The collision occurred on Turpentine Run Road at the curve near the Nadir basketball
court, VIPD Communications Director Glen Dratte said.

The SUV driver and passenger were both transported to the Schneider Regional Medical Center (SRMC) by ambulance to be treated.

Each driver sustained minor injuries from the collision, according to Dratte.

The VIPD Motor Carrier Safety Unit is currently investigating this accident.
