CHARLOTTE AMALIE — A St. Thomas man who tried to elude police in an area of Estate Bovoni under surveillance was arrested on an illegal gun charge Wednesday, authorities said.
Liz Brian, 29, of Charlotte Amalie, was arrested and charged with delaying and obstructing and possession of an unlicensed firearm, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.
Members of the VIPD Special Operations Bureau and Intel Unit conducted surveillance in the area of Bovoni, in the vicinity of Gasworks II gas station and convenience store as part of Operation Over Watch on Wednesday, according to the VIPD.
During the operation, officers made contact with Brian who refused to comply with the orders of the officers on the scene. Officers took Brian into custody using less lethal force after he tried to evade the officers in an attempt to leave the vicinity, police said.
“Once detained officers discovered that Brian was in possession of a machine gun with a 50- round drum attached,” VIPD Communications Director Glen Dratte said. “It was also discovered that Brian was in possession of a Glock 26 – 9MM handgun in the glove box of his vehicle with several extended magazines loaded to capacity with bullets.”
Brian was then taken to the Richard Callwood Command where he was booked, processed. He was
remanded to the custody of the Virgin Islands Bureau of Corrections pending an advice-of-rights hearing, set for today at 10:00 a.m.
