Officers were dispatched at approximately 11:45 p.m. Thursday to a disturbance in the area of Bernie’s Bar located in American Yacht Harbor, according to the VIPD.

“Investigation revealed that the suspect was screaming and running through the bar while making verbal threats to the bartender,” VIPD Communications Director Glen Dratte said.

At about 1:45 a.m. the on-duty Security Guard confronted Registe in the American Harbor staircase leading down to the parking garage causing a disturbance, according to Dratte.

“The security guard stated that he told Registe to leave the area and that is when the suspect attacked him with a knife causing a laceration that required 10 to 14 sutures to close,” the police spokesman said. “During the attack the on-duty guards’ shoulder was also dislocated.”

At approximately 5:33 a.m. today, officers received a call from the 911 Emergency Call Center that
Registe was at the Emergency Room reporting that he was struck with a piece of two-by-four lumber breaking his left hand, according to police.

Officers met with Registe at the hospital and he allegedly admitted to being in the bar incident this morning and stabbing the security guard, according to the VIPD.

But the security guard stated he had no knowledge of how Registe’s hand was broken, police said.

Registe received medical attention for his injury at the hospital. He was then COVID-19 tested and released into police custody. He was transported to Adam Command where he was charged, booked,
and processed.

In January 2018, Registe was charged by the U.S. Department of Justice with being a convicted felon in possession of firearms and a bulletproof vest.

Bail for Registe was set at $75,000. Unable to post bail, he was remanded to the custody of the Virgin Islands Bureau of Corrections pending an advice-of-rights hearing today.
