KINGSHILL — A St. Croix mother who allegedly strangled a child has been arrested on domestic violence-related charges, authorities said.
Antenasia Marrero, 21, was arrested at 9:20 a.m. Friday and charged with second-degree assault-domestic violence, child abuse and simple assault & battery-domestic violence, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.
Members of the Criminal Investigation Bureau executed an arrest warrant on Marrero outside her place of employment Friday morning without incident, according to the VIPD.
Marrero was arrested pursuant to an arrest warrant signed by Superior Court Magistrate Judge Ernest E. Morris Jr., on November 10, 2022, VIPD Communications Director Glen Dratte said.
“This arrest refers to an incident on December 11, 2020, in which Ms. Marrero assaulted a minor child, causing visible injuries to the child’s neck,” according to Dratte.
Marrero was transported to police operations at #45 Mar Hill Frederiksted where she was read her Miranda Rights and declined to give a statement, police said. She was processed and booked there.
Bail for Marrero was set at $50,000. Unable to post bail, she was remanded to the custody of the Virgin Islands Bureau of Corrections at the John A. Bell Adult Correctional Facility pending an advice-of-rights hearing scheduled for Monday at 9:00 am, at the Superior Court.
