Bergs Home Man Charged With Statutory Rape; Girl Says They Were ‘Sexually Involved’

CHARLOTTE AMALIE — A St. Thomas man was arrested on statutory rape charges after an underage girl said he had been sexually intimate with her for at least two months.

Marvin Stancliffe, 33, of H.H. Bergs Home, was arrested at 3:49 p.m. Friday and charged with first-degree aggravated rape and second-degree aggravated rape, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

Police issued a wanted poster for Stancliffe on November 14 on Facebook. Two days later, the wanted poster had the words “found” written on it.

Stancliffe, learning he was wanted by authorities, surrendered to officers with the VIPD’s Domestic Violence Unit on Friday afternoon, according to police.

The charges came after a female minor reported to police that she and Stancliffe had been “sexually involved” since September of 2022, VIPD Communications Director Glen Dratte said.

Stancliffe was advised of his rights, however he refused to give a statement, according to Dratte.

The suspect was booked, processed and turned over to the Bureau of Corrections pending an advice-of-rights hearing scheduled for tomorrow.

Anyone who has any information about this crime can notify the Domestic Violence Unit at 340-774-2211 Ext. 5534.
