CHARLOTTE AMALIE — A California man who tried to fly in 40 pounds of marijuana from Atlanta was arrested by federal agents at the St. Thomas airport.
Christophe Alain Foisy, 27, was stopped at the Cyril E. King Airport by investigators who had a tip that he was bringing in the illegal drug, court records state.
Foisy was brought before U.S. Magistrate Judge Ruth Miller for an initial court appearance after being charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, U.S. Attorney Delia L. Smith said.
According to court documents, Foisy arrived in St. Thomas on a Delta Airlines flight from Atlanta, Georgia, with thirty-two vacuum sealed packages containing a green leafy substance in his checked suitcases.
After Foisy confirmed to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers that the suitcases were indeed his, the officers field tested the green leafy substance which yielded a positive reaction for the presence of marijuana and weighed approximately 18 kilograms.
The Department of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) are investigating this case.
It is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Meredith Edwards.
