CRUZ BAY — Police arrested a jailed man after he was captured on video surveillance burglarizing a St. John restaurant three and a half months ago, authorities said.
Alan Beyer, 26, of Gypsy Spirit, was arrested at 4:30 p.m. Friday and charged with unlawful entry, grand larceny and third-degree burglary, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.
The owner of Café Roma Restaurant, was present at the Leander Jurgen Command on August 31 to report that his business was burglarized, and several items were removed from his business, police said.
“Surveillance footage was reviewed in reference to this matter which displayed Alan Beyer leaving the vicinity of the business with a plastic bag that was identified as a bag that Café Roma provides to its to-go customers,” VIPD Communications Director Glen Dratte said.
Police met with Beyer at the St. Thomas jail inside the Alexander Farrelly Justice Complex where a warrant was executed in connection to this burglary, according to Dratte.
Beyer was booked, processed and advised of his Miranda Rights.
Bail for Beyer was set at $25,000. Unable to post bail, he was remanded back to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections pending an advice-of-rights hearing.
In July of 2021, Beyer was arrested after being captured on video removing three t-shirts, four hats, three pairs of sunglasses, a set of power tools, four ice pops, and the tip jar from Irie Pops in Cruz Bay. The total value of the items taken from the ice cream store was listed at $590.
This case is currently under active investigation by the Criminal Investigation Bureau.
