SAN JUAN — A man was killed and four people injured in a drive-by shooting in broad daylight on Dos Hermanos Street, near the La Placita area of Santurce on Tuesday afternoon, the Puerto Rico Police Department confirmed.
“It is alleged that a vehicle passed, when the man was going down some stairs, the car stopped, fired and continued,” José Juan García, commissioner of the San Juan Municipal Police, said.
As of press time, the deceased had not yet been identified by authorities.
García said that there were three of the injured were people eating al fresco at restaurants in the area, according to preliminary reports.
“There is a lady injured with a shot in the abdomen area, one in an arm and another with a shot in a leg, apparently they were diners who fell to the floor,” the commissioner said.
Subsequently, a police report indicated that there were four injured, two women and two men. Two of them were transported to a local hospital and the other two were treated at the scene because their injuries were not as serious because they were just hit by bullet fragments.
As part of the preliminary investigation, municipal officers will begin working with the videos from 30 security cameras located in the area to identify the vehicle and the person(s) responsible for the shooting.
Agents attached to the Homicide Division of the San Juan Criminal Investigation Corps and the prosecutor on duty took charge of the investigation.
