Man Who Beat Up, Threw Stones At And Shot At New Boyfriend Of Ex-Girlfriend Is Arrested

KINGSHILL — Police said a man threw stones and then shot at two men as they were walking in a residential neighborhood one morning last month because one of them was dating his ex-girlfriend.

Shamar J. Brown, 26, was arrested at 6:04 a.m. today and charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, third-degree assault, discharging or aiming of a firearm, carrying of firearms openly or concealed, and possession or sale of ammunition, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

The 911 Emergency Call Center notified officers of discharging of shots in the vicinity of a residence in Estate Barren at 9:17 a.m. on February 4, according to the VIPD..

The victim told investigators that Shamar Brown assaulted him on January 31 because he was dating his ex-girlfriend, police said.

“The victim stated that he and his brother were taking their usual morning walk in the area where Mr. Brown resided, and he began throwing rocks at them,” VIPD Communications Director Glen Dratte said. “Mr. Brown then entered his residence and returned with a handgun and discharged
several shots at them, however, no one was injured.”

Detectives obtained a warrant for the arrest of Shamar J. Brown on March 2, police said. Brown was arrested at his residence without incident early this morning.

The suspect declined to make a statement at the time of his arrest, according to police. Bail for Brown was set at $100,000.00. Unable to post bail, he was remanded to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections at the John Bell Adult Correctional Facility pending an advice-of-rights hearing.
