EF-0 Tornado Confirmed To Touch Down In Aguadilla Today, Causing Limited Damage

SAN JUAN — The National Weather Service confirmed today that an EF-0 tornado caused limited damage in Aguadilla. No injuries were reported.

The NWS officially classified the Aguadilla tornado as an EF0 with maximum winds of 85 mph and an estimated duration of six minutes, forming near Road #2 and traversing 0.25 miles between the Ceiba Baja neighborhood and Caimital Alto.

The brief tornado mainly impacted a structure, ripping off the aluminum roofs of a garage and causing damage to several vehicles in the affected area. Also, in relation to this severe thunderstorm, gusts of wind affected the area near Crash Boat Beach, causing trees to fall on cars parked in the area, as well as the fall of electrical awning.

In addition to this phenomenon, linear (straight line) winds were recorded in the area, according to the NWS.

Bad weather destroyed part of the vicinity of the Puerto Rico Police Dealer Transport Workshop, located on Road #2 in Aguadilla. 

The aluminum roof of the structure buckled and caused damage to two vehicles of the personnel that work in the workshop.

Also, in the Crash Boat Beach parking lot in Borinquen, a tree fell on a 1999 Toyota Corolla car.

Two people were inside it, who fortunately were unharmed. Power lines also fell to the pavement.

The wind event happened at 1:00 p.m. today, according to Yesenia Torres Figueroa/

Torres Figueroa reported that the tornado was spotted in the vicinity of the Puerto Rico Police Dealer Transport Workshop, located on Road #2 in Aguadilla.

She reported that the aluminum roof collapsed due to the winds, causing damage to two vehicles of the staff working on the site.

Following this, an aluminum bar flew and fell on top of another Toyota Yaris vehicle, passing through the area. These facts were investigated by the Sgto. Jose Guevara Irizarry and the photos taken by the Agte. Nelson Hernandez Technical Services, C.I.C.

At the Crash Boat Beach parking lot located on the Carr. 107 Aguadilla, a tree fell on a Toyota, Corolla, year 1999 and inside were two people, who were unharmed. In addition, electric stretch on pavement being notified by the staff of LUMA Energy, who are heading to the site. This incident was investigated by the Agte. Edwin Candelaria assigned to the District of Aguadilla.

The Tnte. William Martinez, Arocho, Interagency Coordinator of Emergency Management of the Aguadilla Command, went and checked the incidents.
