CHRISTIANSTED — A St. Croix man has been arrested in connection to the rape of an underage girl that took place nine months ago.
Jason Tuitt, 47, has been arrested and charged with first-degree rape, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.
Detectives assigned to the Criminal Investigation Bureau executed an arrest warrant on Tuitt at 12:46 p.m. on May 22, 2024, according to the VIPD.

Police only publicized the arrest of Tuitt today on Facebook.
The arrest took place at Neighborhood Laundromat in Sion Farm, according to police.
After informing Tuitt that they had a warrant for his arrest, he surrendered to officers without incident.
The arrest warrant was issued following a report of rape on October 16, 2023, police said.
On that date, a minor female was taken to a police station to report that she had been raped by Tuitt, according to police.
Bail for Tuitt was initially set at $100,000. But a Superior Court judge allowed him to pay 10 percent, or $10,000 to be released to his own recognizance in May.
As Tuitt awaits trial, court documents indicate that prosecutors are willing to consider a plea deal in the case.
