VIPD hosts 2024 Consent Decree Summit

CHARLOTTE AMALIE – The Virgin Islands Police Department hosted a Consent Decree Summit that took place at the University of the Virgin Islands in St. Thomas this week.

Some 40 participants attended, including the VIPD’s Management Staff, the appointed Independent
Monitoring Team, and attorneys from the United States Department of Justice and local Attorney General’s Office provided an opportunity to ensure that all stakeholders could come together to discuss the challenges in moving the department forward with compliance with the three outstanding paragraphs of the consent decree.

The remaining concerns and challenges the department is facing were thoroughly discussed and analyzed during day one of the summit and on day two solutions and strategies were brought forward concerning the remaining challenges.

The discussions also included feedback from the monitoring team which involved engagement from the management staff to foster creative ideas in which the supervisors can assist in moving the department towards compliance.

The department realizes that with this collaborative effort and continuous discussions with inclusion of the supervisor’s aids buy-in of the supervisors and further commitment to the goals set forward by VIPD management staff.

“The Consent Decree Summit was a unique opportunity for a high-impact networking experience for the Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) providing strategic planning, actionable insight, and invaluable information to achieve the completion of the three remaining paragraphs of the Consent Decree,” Deputy Commissioner, Jason Marsh for Professional Standards and who oversees the Consent Decree for the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

The two day summit took place between December 10 to 11, 2024 at UVI in St. Thomas.
