DPNR beach advisory: 2 beaches are not safe for swimming this weekend

CHARLOTTE AMALIE — Two beaches in the territory are deemed not safe for beachgoers based on water quality testing by the Virgin Islands Department of Planning and Natural Resources.

Morningstar beach at Point Knoll in St. Thomas and Condo row in Estate Golden Rock on St. Croix failed to meet established standards for Enterococci Bacteria and should not be considered safe for swimming or fishing, according to DPNR.

The beaches at condo row in St. Croix — which include the Sugar Beach Condominiums, the Club St. Croix Condominiums, the Mill Harbor Condominiums and the Colony Cove Condominiums — also failed last week.

DPNR performed water quality analysis at 36 designated beaches throughout the territory
during the week of January 27 – January 31, 2025.

The local environmental agency said it did not take samples from Water Bay on St. Thomas.

“Therefore, the water quality at this beach is unknown,” DPNR said.

Based on the analytical results, the following beaches met water quality standards and are
considered safe for swimming and fishing:

DPNR’s Beach Water Quality Monitoring Program evaluates weekly water quality at popular swimming beaches throughout the territory by sampling for Enterococci Bacteria and turbidity, which is a measure of water clarity.
