Alfred James accused of plying minor with alcohol and drugs prior to rape

CHARLOTTE AMALIE — A grooming suspect in St. Thomas has been accused of plying a minor with alcohol and drugs before forcing her into sexual intercourse.

Alfred King James, 23, was arrested and charged with first-degree rape, aggravated rape, unlawful sexual contact, computer pornography, distribution of a controlled substance to a minor, serving alcohol to a minor, child abuse and other related charges, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

Detectives with the VIPD’s Criminal Investigation Bureau began an investigation into James’ activities after a minor reported being sexually assaulted by him, police said.

The investigation revealed that Alfred James served alcohol and narcotics to the minor and engaged in sexual intercourse and other sexually explicit conduct, which was allegedly recorded, VIPD spokeswoman Kishma Chichester said.

The investigation led to a Superior Court arrest warrant being issued for “Alfred King James,” according to Chichester.

On Thursday, February 20, 2025, James was apprehended by the Virgin Islands Police Department’s Special Response Team and the Florida Regional Caribbean Task Force, according to police.

Bail for James was set at $150,000.00.

“The Virgin Islands Police Department is dedicated to protecting our community and will
continue to investigate and pursue individuals who sexually abuse and exploit our children,” the police spokeswoman said.
