Make the Right Call – Drive Sober, Focused, and Rested!
CHARLOTTE AMALIE — Super Bowl LIX is one of the biggest events of the year—a time for
celebration with friends, family, and fellow fans.
But behind the excitement of the game, halftime performances, and commercials, there’s a serious risk: impaired, distracted, and drowsy driving.
As the U.S. Virgin Islands gears up for the Super Bowl, the Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD)/ Office of Highway Safety (VIOHS) are urging residents and visitors to make responsible life-saving decisions.
“Don’t let the excitement cloud your judgment. It only takes one bad decision to turn a celebration into a tragedy,” said Daphne O’Neal, Director of VIOHS. “Whether you’re drinking, distracted, or fatigued, driving under any of these conditions endangers everyone on the road. This Super Bowl, be a true fan—make sure everyone gets home safely.”
What You Can Do
- Designate a Sober Driver: Plan ahead so you don’t have to worry about getting behind
the wheel after drinking. - Avoid Distractions: Stay focused on the road, especially when heading home after the
game. - Get Rested: If you’re feeling tired, take a break or find an alternate way to get home.
We want everyone to enjoy the Super Bowl and make it home safe, shared K’ Tonya Petrus,
VIOHS Impaired Driving Program Manager. “But if you’re impaired, distracted, or drowsy
behind the wheel, you’re not just risking your life—you’re putting everyone else’s at risk
too. Let’s make this Super Bowl Sunday about more than just the game. Let it be about
creating memories with loved ones, celebrating with joy, and ensuring that we all get
home safely. Together, we can make sure the only thing people remember is a day full of
fun, laughter, and, most importantly, safety for everyone.”
