Former Big Kmart greeter charged with assault after stick beating

FREDERIKSTED — A St. Croix man was charged with assault after allegedly beating a man over the head with a stick in Frederiksted town, authorities said.

Glen Miller, 64, of Genip Gardens, was arrested and charged with assault, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

The incident began just before 12:48 p.m. on March 19, 2025, when the 911 Emergency Call Center got a report of an assault in progress in the Frederiksted Town near Lutheran Social Services on Hospital Street, according to the VIPD.

Responding detectives made contact with witnesses who directed them to the victim who was bleeding from the head, police said.

The witnesses and victim explained to detectives that Miller spotted the victim walking along the side of the road and “Miller walked up to the victim and pushed him to the ground.” according to police.

“It was also disclosed that when the victim attempted to get up, Mr. Miller struck him over the head with a stick causing an injury to his head,” VIPD spokeswoman Kishma Chichester said.

The victim was taken to the Juan F. Luis Hospital by ambulance for medical treatment, according to Chichester.

Detectives interviewed Miller near the crime scene and he “admitted to pushing the victim,” Chichester said.

Miller was advised of his Miranda Rights, booked and transferred to the custody of the Bureau of Correction at the John Bell Adult Correctional Facility in Golden Grove.

The suspect is scheduled for an advice-of-rights hearing in Superior Court today.

Bail for Miller was set at $25,000.00 as per chart.

Miller was working as the greeter at Big Kmart in the Sunshine Mall in Frederiksted prior to its shuttering in June of 2023.

He greets people in Frederiksted town most mornings with a friendly “good morning” and freely confides to passersby that he is currently being treated for mental illness.
