CHRISTIANSTED — St. Croix will have intervals of clouds and sunshine with a couple of showers around, mainly late in the day, for a high of 87, AccuWeather said.
Tonight St. Croix will be partly cloudy, with a low of 75, according to AccuWeather.
A long-period northwesterly swell will produce hazardous marine and coastal conditions today across the Atlantic waters, the northern coast of Puerto Rico, Culebra, St. Thomas and St. John, the National Weather Service said.
Areas at Risk and Timing
- For marine hazards:
* Small Craft Advisory in effect across the offshore Atlantic waters through 6:00 p.m. this evening.
- For coastal hazards:
* There is a High Risk of Rip Currents along the northern coast of Puerto Rico, Culebra, St. Thomas, and St. John through late Thursday night. Breaking waves around 6 to 7 feet and occasionally higher in Culebra, St. Thomas, and St. John. On the northern coast of Puerto Rico, breaking waves up to 10 feet.
* A High Surf Advisory is now in effect along the northern coast of Puerto Rico through 6 PM AST this evening due to breaking waves up to 10 feet.
Hazards & Potential Threats/Impacts:
- Small Craft Advisory: Hazardous seas impacting small crafts.
- High Rip Current Risk: Rip currents with the potential to pull even experienced swimmers away from shore.
- High Surf Advisory: Large breaking waves can wash over jetties, sweeping people and pets onto rocks, and rough surf may knock individuals down. Localized beach and dune erosion, along with dangerous swimming conditions are likely. Localized minor flooding and damage to beachfront structures is possible.
Meanwhile, a frontal system will be moving through the local area today, producing heavy rain that could lead to urban and small stream flooding.
