Man accused of shooting his girlfriend, dropping her off at ER as a DOA

CHARLOTTE AMALIE — A man is facing murder charges after police say he shot his girlfriend and later dropped her off at a hospital, where she was immediately pronounced dead. 

According to the Virgin Islands Police Department, 35-year-old Dana Joseph Jr. is accused of killing 33-year-old Latifa Raimer.in St. Thomas on Tuesday evening.

The case began at 8:48 p.m., when the 911 Emergency Call Center was notified by personnel at the Schneider Regional Medical Center (SRMC) that a female with a gunshot wound was dropped off at the Emergency Room, the VIPD said.

Patrol officers, along with detectives and forensic unit personnel, traveled to SRMC and observed an unresponsive female, who was pronounced dead prior to law enforcement officers’ arrival, police said.

The female’s next of kin identified her as 33-year-old Latifa Raimer, according to police.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim’s ex-boyfriend, Dana Joseph Jr. shot her and
dropped her off at the hospital,” VIPD spokeswoman Kishma Chichester said. “Joseph left the hospital without making contact with hospital personnel.”

On Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at approximately 2:10 a.m., 35-year-old Dana Joseph Jr. was arrested and charged with first-degree murder-domestic violence, according to Chichester.

Joseph was remanded to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections pending advice-of-rights hearing in Superior Court.
