Boyfriend loses his cool when questioned about A/C use, VIPD says

FREDERIKSTED — A St. Croix man has been jailed after he allegedly lost his cool when his girlfriend questioned his air conditioning use, authorities said.

Pedro Juan Figueroa, 34, was arrested and charged with simple assault & battery-domestic violence and disturbance of the peace-domestic violence, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

The charges stem from an incident where the victim asked Figueroa to turn off the air conditioner, which caused him to turn violent, according to the VIPD.

The woman who filed the complain said that Figueroa physically assaulted her and “willfully” damaged two televisions and a fan before finally leaving her residence, police said.

On November 2, 2025, at approximately 1:11 p.m., officers from the VIPD’s Patrol Division arrested Figueroa on suspicion of domestic violence, according to police.

“The victim sustained bruising to her left knee as a result of the physical altercation,” VIPD spokeswoman Kishma Chichester said.

No bail was offered to Figueroa due to the territory’s domestic violence statutes.

Figueroa was taken into official custody, booked and processed.

He was then transferred to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections at the John A. Bell Adult Correctional Facility in Golden Grove.

The suspect was scheduled to appear before Magistrate Judge Yolan C. Brow-Ross for an advice-of-rights hearing in Superior Court at Kingshill this morning.
