Drunk 17-year-old confronted by dad tries to stab him, flees

HELENDALE — A 17-year-old confronted by his father after returning home drunk tried to stab him and vandalized his vehicle, California authorities reported.

Deputies responded to a home in Helendale following reports of a threat with a knife at 11:20 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

A father told deputies his 17-year-old son tried to stab him through a security door after being confronted for coming home “under the influence of alcohol,” authorities said.

He also jumped on his father’s Chevrolet pickup truck, breaking the windshield, and stabbed all four tires, deputies said.

The 17-year-old fled before deputies arrived and authorities are still looking for him, officials said.

Investigators ask anyone with information to call 760-552-6800 or Sheriff’s Dispatch at 760-956-5001.

Helendale is about a 55-mile drive north from San Bernardino.
