Lover’s tiff over bed spacing leads to stabbing, VIPD says

CHARLOTTE AMALIE — A woman’s gambit to gain more space on the bed she shared with her boyfriend led to a stabbing early this morning, authorities said.

Achille Alexander was arrested and charged with third-degree assault-domestic violence, simple assault-domestic violence and disturbance of the peace-domestic violence, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

The charges stem from a domestic violence incident that was reported to 911 dispatchers at 5:46 a.m. today, according to the VIPD.

A female told first responders that she was stabbed in her leg near her knee and that the suspect is Achille Alexander, police said.

Patrol officers were immediately dispatched to investigate the complaint of domestic violence, according to police.

When officer’s arrived at the scene, the suspect, Achille Alexander was present at the residence, police said.

Officers were able to meet with the woman who called in the complaint at a nearby residence, according to police.

“The woman stated that her boyfriend, Alexander was sleeping on the bed in their bedroom, and she rolled him to the one side of the bed to get some space to lie down,” VIPD spokeswoman Kishma Chichester said. “She stated that Alexander woke up and started fighting her and stabbed her in the outer part of her thigh near her knee with a knife.”

She then ran out of the apartment to a nearby residence in fear for her life, according to Chichester.

Achille Alexander attempted to resist arrest and was subsequently forcibly detained, police said.

He was advised of his Miranda Rights, taken into official custody and transported to Zone A, Richard Callwood Command, which is near Fort Christian in St. Thomas.

Alexander was taken to the Schneider Hospital for treatment for minor injuries, then brought back to Zone A where he was booked and processed.

His bail was set at $27,000.00. Unable to post bail, he was transferred to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections at the St. Thomas jail.

Alexander is scheduled for an advice-of-rights hearing at the Superior Court in Charlotte Amalie.
