Video shows Lowanya Durant coldcocking man in Tutu Park Mall

CHARLOTTE AMALIE — Video surveillance footage allowed police to make an arrest in an assault case where a man’s face was altered after being brutally attacked by a woman in Tutu Park Mall, authorities said.

Lowanya Durant, 39, was arrested and charged with Assault 3rd, Mayhem, Reckless Endangerment, Disturbance of the Peace, and Simple Assault, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

On Friday, October 31, 2025, at approximately 2:40 p.m., officers from the Virgin Islands Police Department responded to a report of a physical altercation between a male and a female at The Market, located in Tutu Park Mall, according to the VIPD.

Upon arrival, officers met with the individuals involved in the incident.

Preliminary investigation revealed that during the confrontation, Lowanya Durant lunged at the male individual and struck him with her fist, causing him to lose balance, he then hit his head on a shelf and sustained a laceration to his ear, police said.

The injured party was transported to the Schneider Regional Medical Center for treatment and is in stable condition, according to police.

Following the investigation and review of surveillance footage, Durant was taken into official custody, booked and processed.

Bail for Durant was set at $25,000.00. Unable to post bail, she was remanded to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections at the St. Thomas jail.

The suspect is scheduled for an advice-of-rights hearing at the Superior Court in St. Thomas on Monday.
