Bottle, knife assault leads to couple’s arrest on domestic violence charges

CHARLOTTE AMALIE — Police were called to a St. Thomas couple’s residence to investigate a reported knife assault.

Milord Medzar, 27, was arrested and charged with third-degree assault-domestic violence, disturbance of the peace-domestic violence and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a crime of violence, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

Junior Moricette, 33, was arrested and charged with simple assault-domestic violence and disturbance of the peace-domestic violence, according to the VIPD.

The charges stem from an incident of domestic violence in Anna’s Retreat that was first reported to law enforcement at 7:49 p.m., Thursday, police said.

“The investigation determined that during a verbal dispute, Milord Medzar struck Junior Moricette with a bottle and later attacked him with a knife, causing injury,” VIPD Communications Director Glen Dratte said.

Officers made contact with each person involved and “Moricette refused to allow officers access to the residence to recover the weapon used in the assault,” according to Dratte.

Medzar and Moricette were each treated for their injuries at Schneider Hospital, according to police.

Once given medical clearance, they were transported to the Richard Callwood Command, where they were booked and processed.

Neither suspect was offered bail as per the territory’s domestic violence laws.

Medzar and Moricette were transferred to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections at the St. Thomas jail.

They were each scheduled to appear for advice-of-rights hearings in Superior Court.
