Man freaks out when he realizes he’s been stabbed in the back in St. John

CRUZ BAY — A man had to come to grips with his own mortality quickly when he realized that he had been stabbed in the back multiple times by an attacker in St. John.

Rupert G. Walterw, 50, was arrested and charged with frst-degree assault, third-degree assault, use of a dangerous/deadly weapon during a crime of violence, brandishing/using a deadly weapon and reckless endangerment, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

The case began on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at approximately 9:34 p.m., when police were notified of an assault victim at the Myrah Keating-Smith Clinic, according to the VIPD.

The victim told police that he was “stuck from behind by Rupert Walters and as he attempted to defend himself, he was thrown to the ground by a third party,” police said.

“The male realized that he had sustained multiple puncture wounds to his body,” VIPD Communications Director Glen Dratte said.

The male was subsequently transported to the Myrah Keating-Smith Clinic for treatment, according to Dratte.

A warrant was subsequently obtained from the Superior Court for Walters.

On Friday, officers took the suspect, Walters, into official custody. He was booked and processed.

His bail was set at $75,000.00. Unable to post bail, he was transported to St. Thomas and jailed.

This case is presently under investigation by the Criminal Investigation Bureau.
