Today’s weather: mostly sunny, high 80

Life-threatening rip current conditions will persist through Wednesday across Puerto Rico and portions of the U.S. Virgin Islands, the National Weather Service said this morning.

This prolonged hazard is due to repeated pulses of northerly swell, which will continue to generate hazardous surf and dangerous nearshore currents, especially along north-facing beaches, according to the NWS.

A high risk of rip currents means life-threatening conditions are likely. A moderate risk means dangerous rip currents are possible, the NWS said.

The public is strongly urged to stay out of the water at high-risk beaches and follow beach flag warnings, according to the NWS.
